Which Mermaid Tail is Right for You?

Mermaids have long been a subject of fascination, and it's no wonder why. Who wouldn't want to glide effortlessly through the water with a beautiful tail? If you're thinking about getting a mermaid tail of your own (or as a gift for a guppy in your life), you’re probably wondering which one is right for you. With so many options out there, it can be tough to decide. But don't worry, we've got you covered!

Fabric Tails:

If you're new to the world of mermaiding, a fabric tail is a great place to start. They can be relatively inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to maneuver. Plus, they come in a variety of colors and designs, so you can really let your personality shine.

FinFun offers smaller, less elaborate spandex tails, and monofins for absolute beginners. Mertailor and FinFolk Productions both offer scuba knit fabric tails that are great for more experienced hobbyists, or professionals. And if you're looking for something a little more custom, both Mertailor and FinFun offer customization options for their fabric tails.

Silicone Tails:

If you're an experienced mermaid performer or entertainer, a silicone tail might be more your speed. These tails are incredibly realistic and can really take your mermaid game to the next level. However, they are not for the faint of heart (or for children). Silicone tails can be heavy and difficult to maneuver, and should only be used by adult professionals who have received proper training.

FinFolk Productions and Mertailor both offer silicone tails, so you can take your pick. Just make sure you know what you're getting into before you take the plunge! It could take over a year for you to receive your silicone tail, if you order during a particularly busy season. Some people have reported waiting over 2 years for silicone tails. You also need to be prepared to take on the upkeep - they must be properly rinsed, cleaned, and dried after each swim.

Safety Considerations:

Before you dive into the world of mermaiding, it's important to keep safety in mind. First and foremost, never swim alone. Always make sure there is another person present who can help you if needed.

Additionally, if you're planning on using a silicone tail, make sure you have received proper training and know how to use it safely. Silicone tails are heavy and can be difficult to maneuver, and are dangerous if you're not properly trained. Again… silicone tails are NOT for beginners, and should only be used by trained professionals.

And finally, if you're looking to take your mermaid skills to the next level, consider taking a PADI Mermaid course. These courses teach you the skills you need to safely and confidently perform as a mermaid. You can take any one of our PADI Mermaid courses (or all of them!) to earn your sea legs!

So, there you have it - everything you need to know to choose the perfect mermaid tail for you. Whether you're a beginner looking to dip your toes in the water, or a seasoned pro looking for a new challenge, there's a mermaid tail out there that's just right for you. Happy swimming!
